Jen Pettay is a mixed media artist whose work includes 2 dimensional and 3-dimensional art. The artists’ work includes multiple texture techniques, bold colors, and diverse themes. With a background in art and graphic design, Jen’s style teeters between abstract and contemporary impressionism. She has honed her skills over the years in working with multiple mediums.
Jen’s re-emergence into the art scene allows her to express thoughts and images onto canvas, often representing a more universal connection through symbolism and an array of colors used. The combination of nature and geometry that creatively evolves throughout her work takes the viewer to a deeper level of consciousness.
Born and raised in Kansas, Jen draws much of her inspiration from the colors of the sky and nature. Painting, drawing, as well as other mediums at the dining table, helped her skills progress throughout childhood. In her adolescent years she excelled in advanced art studies under artists such as Mace John, Ginger Marshall, and Evonne Eckert. Impressionist and bold abstract work from the early and mid-20th century has always fascinated her. Jen’s style is characterized by vibrant hues, combining nature and geometric themes, while playing on light and texture. With a style that is distinguished by innovative imagery, and materials to create visual surprises for the viewer. Her work invites viewers to Look deeper into nature, themselves, and serves as a testament to her belief in depth and light in all situations.
Throughout her life she has done several creative collaborations and events. Everything from film prop restorations, music, performing arts, costume design, décor, a cookbook, as well as raising her 4 children. All while continuing her personal study of art through text and practice. In 2019 Jen resumed her journey. Since 2020, Jen has been displaying her art in gallery shops such as Wichita City Art, Mulberry Gallery satellite show, live painting at a farmer’s market. Has displayed work in several art shows, coffee shops, and gallery events.
Beyond her artistic endeavors, Jen Pettay works in support of the arts in communities in Kansas. She advocates for the importance of supporting arts in schools and communities. She also believes in the importance of using art as a way for spiritual growth and connection during the creative process.
Currently based in South Hutchinson, KS, Jen Pettay continues to create while exploring new techniques and themes in her basement studio, working in radio, and sharing her journey with her friend and husband, Joshua.
